London to Brighton (2006) opening sequence

London to Brighton (2006) is a realist thriller denoted by the kinetic camera work as well as the low key lighting used throughout. The sequence begins with production and funding titles shown "over black" with no score at all apart from the non-diegetic sound effects that goes with some of the production logos. A tableau is used to set the scene and time of the sequence (London 3:07am) which instantly creates tension as people don't tend to be out in London at such an early hour as it is seen as dangerous. When the scene cuts to a woman running into a toilet with a black eye it is an enigma as it raises the questions of what happened and who has done this to her? The continuing scenes cut between each-other very fast which is fast paced editing and creates suspense as the audience must keep up and keep having to ask questions of what is happening.
Throughout the whole sequence there is very little use of actual score other than the sounds effects of the surroundings making it very realist. The woman buys fast food which connotes how very little money she has, and she doesn't seem to have a home to make proper food or the time and money to do so. The dialogue between the mother and the daughter tells the audience that they need to go somewhere and leave the town quickly this is an enigma as it raises the questions of why they need to leave so quickly, this builds suspense in the audience. The dialogue also tells the audience that the child doesn't want to be on her own yet the mother says she can't go with her which suggests she is doing something wrong, that she doesn't want the child to know about or be involved in then the woman leaves the toilets and is waiting on the street for a man and then she goes into the car and it is enigma for her being a prostitute. The sequence ends with the mother and daughter on a train and the daughter asks 'are we going to go to jail?' this connotes that they have done something wrong and may be trying to get away from the police and/ or the someone they have done something to.
